The National Democratic Institute has presented the results of a nationwide telephone poll of public opinion conducted on January 4-23 this year with the assistance of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).[1]<\/a> Respondents were asked a series of questions, including their attitudes toward LGBTQ people.<\/p>\n The vast majority (58%) of those surveyed generally agreed that LGBTQ people should have the same rights as other citizens of Ukraine; 20% held the opposite opinion.<\/p>\n 56% \u2014 an absolute majority \u2014 generally agreed that LGBTQ people have the right to register their family relationships in the form of civil partnerships; 24% disagreed with this. Interestingly, the relative majority of respondents (44%) generally supported even the right of same-sex partners to enter into a regular marriage; 36% were against it.<\/p>\n 30% supported the adoption of children by same-sex couples; 48% opposed it.<\/p>\n 54% overall agreed that LGBTQ people have the right to demonstrate for their rights; 27% denied it.<\/p>\n When in May of last year we received the results of a public opinion survey commissioned by us at KIIS, at first we could not believe how radically the attitude of Ukrainian society towards its LGBTQ fellow citizens had improved in recent years \u2014 it is noteworthy that similar opinions arose from the sociologists who conducted the survey, but after careful analysis and consideration of all factors, they still concluded that their conclusions were valid.[2]<\/a> Last year, the results of two more studies qualitatively confirmed them.[3]<\/a>, [4]<\/a>\u00a0The new data completely coincide with the previous ones, demonstrating that the Ukrainian society is rapidly modernizing during the wartime, increasingly moving away from the traditional values of the so-called Russian World.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The National Democratic Institute has presented the results of a nationwide telephone poll of public opinion conducted on January 4-23 this year with the assistance of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
